Auction at St. Paul exceeds expectations

The 2009 St. Paul Lutheran School auction committee and the school’s eighth-grade graduating students, presented a $120,000 check to principal Duane Giesselmann.

The presentation was made on the last day of school in front of the entire student body, faculty, church staff and parents.

The 14th annual dinner auction was held May 2 at the school for a sold-out crowd. While the event has grown each year in the number of sponsors, donors, volunteers and funds raised, this year’s auction was surprisingly remarkable, as the amount raised far exceeded the expectations in today’s struggling economy.

“The auction was extraordinary this year,” said co-chair Lisa Mengwasser.

“Through the contributions and support of many businesses and numerous individuals, this year’s auction was more successful than we could have imagined. There are far too many contributors and supporters to mention by name, but the auction committee would like to thank everyone involved.  It is only through gracious giving and support that this type of event can be so successful year after year.”

While the auction proceeds were approximately $140,000, after all expenses were paid, the $120,000 presented to the school reflected a 25 percent increase over last year. This money is already being put to good use by purchasing much-needed equipment and supplies for the upcoming school year.

Next years’ auction is scheduled for Saturday, May 1, 2010. Heather Garner will serve as chair and Julie Powers will serve as co-chair.

A copy of this year’s program is still available on-line at www.stpaulauction.com. All donors and sponsors are listed on this Web site.
