PARK HILLS - In the first game of Tuesday's 19th Annual Lady Rebel Tournament, the Central Lady Rebels played against the Herculaneum Lady Blackcats in the consolation bracket. Herculaneum emerged victorious over Central by the score of 54-47.

Although Central's Tausha Petty knocked down a pair of free throws to start off the game, that would be the only lead Central had in the game. A basket by Herculaneum's Edie Farmer and Ashlee Weinhaus gave the Lady Blackcats the lead. A put-back by Katie Hammers tied the game, but Lauren Dunn drained a two and a three-pointer to regain and keep the lead for the Lady Blackcats. Two more free throws and a jump shot by Dunn gave the Lady Blackcats a 14-8 lead after the first quarter.

Four consecutive free throws by Herculaneum made it 18-10 at the beginning of the second quarter. A Weinhaus lay-up and a three-pointer by Erin Steffens helped extend Herculaneum's lead to 10 points at the half.

Central started off the third quarter with a 8-0 scoring run that included a three-point shot by Petty to narrow the deficit. The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Blackcats 14-7 in the third quarter, but Central still had their work cut out for them.

Herculaneum went on a 7-0 scoring drive as Weinhaus scored five of those points in the fourth quarter. The two clubs continuously traded points throughout the rest of the game as Herculaneum managed to stay one step ahead of the Lady Rebels.

Free throws really hurt Central as they made only 9 out of 22 attempts. Herculaneum was 23-43 from the charity stripe due to several fouls by Central.

The Lady Blackcats had seven players in the scoring column while the Lady Rebels had nine. (See box scores below).

The last girls game of the day had two conference teams go toe-to-toe as the Arcadia Valley Lady Tigers and the Bismarck Lady Indians brought excitement to fans of both teams. Two consecutive three-pointers by the Lady Tigers in the fourth quarter gave them the lead and eventually the win by the score of 53-47.

After Bismarck led 4-3, the Lady Tigers went on a 6-point scoring run to take the lead. A free throw by Karah Faulkner and a three-pointer by Chelsey Morris narrowed the gap. Arcadia Valley remained ahead by one after the first quarter of play.

Throughout most of the second quarter, both squads exchanged one bucket at a time as Arcadia Valley's Tana Franklin nailed the only three-pointer in the second quarter. Bismarck later went on spurts of five and three points while Leah Williams sank one more free throw for the Lady Tigers. The Lady Indians led 26-21 at half-time.

Several missed scoring attempts forced Bismarck and Arcadia Valley to play defensively in the third quarter. Neither team managed to score runs of more than five straight points in the quarter. The Lady Indians managed to outscore the Lady Tigers 10-6.

The fourth quarter sparked a turning point for Arcadia Valley as Williams and Brandi Bennett both knocked down a three-pointer, and Bennett sank a jump shot for a 44-38 lead. Bismarck trailed by only two points after a put-back by Faulkner, but Franklin drained four consecutive free throws for the Lady Tigers to finish off the Lady Indians.

Arcadia Valley and Herculaneum will play for the consolation championship on Friday at 10:30 p.m. Bismarck will travel to Valle on January 6 for a conference game. Central will host St. Pius in a nnon-conference game on January 3.
