PARK HILLS - There was no basketball playing in Foulon Fieldhouse at Central High School on Saturday as the Central Rebels hosted an all-day 12 team wrestling tournament instead. A dual-meet format was used from the tournament's start at 9 a.m. to its finish at 6 p.m.

When the last matches were wrestled, De Soto was crowned the tournament winner with Berkeley placing second. Herculaneum placed third with Central taking fourth place. Hillsboro finished 5th, Dexter 6th, Poplar Bluff 7th, Sikeston 8th, Hancock 9th, Sullivan 10th, Priory 11th, and New Madrid 12th.

The 12 teams were divided into four pools of three utilizing two mats in the white gym as well as two mats in the fieldhouse. Pool play was a round-robin of the three teams in each pool with the top two teams advancing to the championship bracket and the third team advancing to a round-robin consolation bracket. Each team wrestled five duals in the tournament.

In Pool 1 Central defeated Sullivan 42-34, and after Poplar Bluff beat Sullivan 35-30, Central defeated Poplar Bluff 36-34 with Lonnie Horton pinning his opponent in the heavyweight match to give the Rebels the final winning points.

The top team in each pool was paired with a second place team in one of the other pools in the first round of the championship bracket.

Once the championship and consolation brackets were set after pool play, Central defeated Sikeston to earn a spot in the semi-finals against De Soto. De Soto won the match 49-21, and in the third-place match Central lost to Herculaneum 53-24. (All matches are listed below.)

Jack Hampton at 112 won all five of his matches for the Rebels. Kayne Nations (103), Brandon Lindsey (125), and Bo Beckett were all 4-1. Rick Militzer (119) and Justin Russell (189) were both 3-2. Lonnie Horton (275) finished with a 2-3 record. Cameron Parker (135), Shaun Topping (152), and Mike Carolyn had one win each on the day, and Brandon Acon (145) and Jeff Bolin (215) were both shut out.

Central's next meet wil be on January 20 at North County.
