Farmington wrestlers place second in SEMO Tournament

Donn Adamson / Daily Journal The Farmington Knights had a very successful two days at the SEMO Conference Tournament held at North County HIgh School this weekend. The Knights took second in the tournament with four first place finishes.
BONNE TERRE - The Farmington led the SEMO Conference Wrestling Tournament after the first round, but trailed the Class 4 Jackson Indians after that until the finish with Jackson winning the tournament with 410 points to Farmington's 355.

The Knights won four first-place medals, four second-place medals, and one third place and one fourth place in the 14 weight classes.

The Knights started out the finals round with three straight wins over Jackson wrestlers. Dustin King (103) who entered the tournament with a 0-0 record won every one of his matches and won the championship match by fall in 3:00. Joey Newland (112) kept his undefeated season intact (38-0) with a 21-6 tech fall in his championship match, and Craig Wilson (119) improved his record to 36-2 with an 18-7 major decision.

Farmington's other first-place finish came from Kevin King's (145) 9-2 decision over Ste. Genevieve's Zach Bader. Nicholas Hoehn (125), Justin Hill (135), Michael Zaricor (140), and Jacob Hise (215) all placed second. Tyler Epstein won his third-place match by a 7-3 decision, and Max Robinson placed fourth.

North County placed sixth as a team. Raider fans had their moment of cheer when Jesse Coale (140) won his first-place match with an 11-5 decision over Zaricor. Jason Winckel (152) placed second losing only by a 10-4 decision to Jackson's Cody Rouse, who is 40-0 on the year and was named the tournament's MVP.

Central had three wrestlers make it to the medal round. Brandon Lindsey (125) won third place with fall in 2:50, and Bo Beckett (171) and Jeff Bolin (215) both placed fourth.

Ste. Genevieve took third place in the tournament. The Dragons had 10 wrestlers advance into the medal round. 2004 state champion Tanner Wolk (171) placed first with a 12-2 major decision. Zach Bader (145) and Taylor Huck (160) took second place. Curt Gegg (112) won third place with a 5-1 decision, Zach Harman (119) did the same with a 6-5 win, and Randy Lurk (152) won by a fall in 2:53. Aaron Wehner (103), Adam Johnson (135), and Mike Prahl (275 all took fourth place.
