PERRYVILLE -- The No. 2 seed Valle Lady Warriors met the No. 3 seed Bismarck Lady Indians for the third time this season on Thursday. The regular season games didn't matter any more as the winning team would go on to play for the district championship while the losing team would end their season.

Valle almost saw their season come to an end as the Lady Warriors were looking past Bismarck to the championship game instead. The Lady Warriors managed to win in overtime by the score of 50-48.

"We were looking ahead and that was the wrong thing to do," stated Valle's head coach Judd Naeger. "They came out and played a real good game against us. They didn't miss a whole lot of shots and it almost came back to kill us."

Both teams had a frustrating time with shooting throughout the first quarter. Valle's Sara Hermann knocked down two free throws to kick off the contest. Late in the quarter a lay-up by Bismarck's Chelsey Politte tied the game to close the first quarter score at 4-4.

Bismarck's Karah Faulkner quickly made a jump shot at the start of the second quarter for the Lady Indians' first lead of the game. Valle strongly answered back with 11 straight points, which included three-pointers by Katie Shuh and Danielle Donze for a 15-6 game.

Bismarck wasn't ready to go down this early in the game. The Lady Indians went on a 10-3 scoring run to make it an 18-16 game. Herzog broke up the run with a triple, but Faulkner drained a jump shot before the end of the half. The Lady Warriors held a 21-18 advantage.

Bismarck made two scoring runs, each time either tying or taking the lead until the final seconds of the quarter when Politte made a three-pointer just inside the half-court line to give Bismarck a 36-32 edge.

A lay-up by Herzog and one by Kara Schilli tied the game at the start of the fourth quarter. The two teams battled back and forth, matching baskets all the way until at the 2:23 mark the Lady Warriors called time-out. Valle went into a stall to control the basketball and go for the last shot. They would call time-out two more times but it would be to no avail as the last shot missed sending the game into overtime.

The Lady Warriors jumped quickly out to a 50-45 lead. Politte made a three-pointer to narrow the gap, and Bismarck called time with 6.4 seconds left. Valle threw the ball away on the inbounds pass, and the Lady Indians called another time-out to set up a last play. The Lady Indians saw their last chance disappear as Valle's defense forced a turnover to end the game.

"All year long we've struggled with taking care of the ball against Valle," commented Bismarck's head coach Julie Faulkner. "The girls played hard and they wanted to win so bad. If we're going to go down, this is exactly the kind of game we want to go down in."

The Lady Indians finished their season with a 12-12 record. The Lady Warriors (24-3) will play Metro on Saturday at 6 p.m. for the district championship. Metro dominated St. Vincent on Thursday by the score of 62-30.
