Local sports events will be announced in the Daily Journal on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday for two weeks preceding the event. Please send an announcement of your upcoming event to the sports department no sooner than three weeks before the event or its registration deadline by either phone 431-2010, FAX 431-7640, or drop it off in person at the Daily Journal office in Park Hills.

Park Hills Softball - April 4

A managers meeting will be held for girls softball leagues at 7 p.m. on April 4 at the Sports Complex (horseshoe building). The following leagues are being offered: slow pitch (age 12-under), fast pitch (age 15-under) and fast pitch (age 18-under). Call the Parks Department at 431-0478 for additional information.

Baseball Tickets - April 9

Baseball tickets are now on sale for the MAAA/JCAA Baseball Showcase on April 9 which will be played at GMC Stadium in Sauget, Illinois. There will be two games starting with Central vs. Herculaneum at 4 p.m. and Farmington vs. Festus at 6:30 p.m. Tickets include both games for $4 per person and are now on sale at each school.

MAYB Tourney - April 9-10

A Mid-American Youth Basketball (MAYB) Tournament for boys and girls teams, grades 4-12 will be held at Farmington and North County High Schools. The entry fee is $150 with a three-game guarantee. Register online at www.mayb.com or call Bob Schwartz at 458-5490 or e-mail at schwaid@1dd.net.

Desloge Baseball - April 15

There Desloge Community Baseball Leagues, for boys and girls ages 4-15, are still open for players to sign up until April 15. All games will be played at Brightwell Park in Desloge and there are leagues for T-ball, coach pitch, pitching machine, fast-pitch and girls softball. Farmington Softball - April 19

Registration has begun for the Adult Slo-Pitch Softball Leagues in Farmington. Men's, Church and Co-ed Leagues are limited to 12 teams and eight teams for the Women's League. Interested teams may pick up needed materials at the Parks and Recreation Office at 12 S. Franklin St. Registration is on a first-come basis and the last day to register is Men's - April 18, Church - April 19, Women's - April 20, and Co-ed - April 21. For more information contact the department at 756-2215.
