Knights win on tiebreaker, Rebels pick up conference win

It was back to conference play on Tuesday for area golf teams after Monday's district tournaments. The Farmington Knights barely continued their undefeated conference record, and the Central Rebels split their tri-dual, but picked up the conference win.

Farmington 165 (43-55 TB), Arcadia Valley 165

FARMINGTON - The Farmington Knights were nearly upset by the Arcadia Valley Tigers in Tuesday's match. The Tigers managed to tie the conference leaders at 165 each, but the fifth man's scores which were used as a tiebreaker gave the Knights the win. Farmington's fifth score was a 43 and Arcadia Valley's was a 55.

Arcadia Valley's Jordan McLaurin shot a one-under par on the St. Francois Country Club course for medalist honors.

Jim Gillespie was low scorer for Farmington with a 39. Barrett Belew was next at 41, Brian Gallagher shot a 42, and Matt Rhodes had a 43. Gene Williams tied Rhodes with a 43 which was used for the tiebreaker. (Only the top four scores are used for the team score.)

For Arcadia Valley, along with McLaurin's sub-par score, Chris Spitzmiller shot a 40, and Blaine Dunivan and Abe Warren each scored a 45. Dustin Branstetter's 55 was used for the tiebreaker.

Farmington will play at Terre Du Lac's Valley course on Thursday against host West County. Arcadia Valley will host Central on Thursday.

North County 160, Central 172, Fredericktown 180

FARMINGTON - Three conference teams returned to Eagle Lake on Tuesday, after playing their district tournament there on Monday, but only Central and Fredericktown were vying for a conference win. Central got it, 172-180, and North County picked up two nonconference wins with a score of 160.

Keith Huff and Will McDowell each shot a 42, and Jimmy Guinn and Brad Burgess each shot a 44 for Central's team score.

Kevin Foster was low man for Fredericktown with a 40. Clay Street shot a 44, Chase Dunham had a 46 and Mike Underwood scored an even 50.

Class 3 district winner North County was led by medalist Robert House with a 38. Brandon Smith and Jake Black had 40 strokes each, and Cory Claywell finished with a 42.

The Central J.V. team won both ends of the tri-dual match with a 209. Justin Bowers was medalist with a 45.

Central will play at Arcadia Valley on Thursday. North County will host Potosi on Thursday and Fredericktown will host Valle.

Potosi 175, Ste. Genevieve 205

POTOSI - The Potosi Trojans were on top of their game as they defeated the Ste. Genevieve Dragons 175-205 in a conference match at Fourche Valley Golf Course. Brett DeClue continued his assault on par as he logged a 36 for the day for medalist honors.

Sean Martin shot a 42, Brittany Chazelle scored a 47, and Ryan Portell had an even 50 strokes.

Kyle Stolzer was low scorer for the Dragons with a 44. Aaron DeRousse had a 51 and D.J. Gegg and Mark Fallert each shot a 55.

Potosi will host West County and De Soto today for their next matches.
