FARMINGTON - The Farmington Knightettes volleyball team has been known for their relentless offense and Tuesday was no different when they hosted the Union Lady Cats. Farmington easily dominated the first game 25-6. Although the Knightettes didn't serve-receive too well at the start of the second contest, Farmington bounced back to take the game 25-14.
Three kills by Megan Bess, a kill from Briley Milfeld, and an ace by Sydney Winslow handed the Knightettes a quick 7-0 lead. The Cats managed to score two points, but a couple more kills by Bess, two aces by Milfeld, and a double block by Bess and Elizabeth Harris helped Farmington pile up 11 consecutive points for a massive 18-2 advantage.
After an exchange of two points, Union knocked down a kill to slightly narrow the gap. Bess slammed down another kill and served an ace for a 23-5 contest. Union got one more point before a powerful attack by Winslow and a serve that wasn't returned gave Farmington the victory in game one.
The Knightettes had a struggled early in serve receptions and because of this, Union quickly took a 4-0 lead. The Lady Cats made a few errors and Bess pounded another kill to take a 6-4 lead. Farmington continued to build on to their lead as a kill by Bess and Winslow and another ace by Milfeld gave the Knightettes a 10-6 edge.
Bess' relentless attacks and an ace by Becky Weaver gave Farmington four more tallies. A few setbacks by the Knightettes allowed Union to narrow the gap to five points. At this point, both teams exchanged points three times before the Lady Cats recorded an ace for an 18-14 game. However, that was all Union got as Farmington racked up seven straight points to end the match. Bess smashed down four spikes during the scoring run.
Bess piled up an impressive 14 kills and Brenna Noble made the same amount of assists. Harris and Bess both had a couple of blocks and Winslow led the team in digs with six. Milfeld led the squad in serve receptions with six and Winslow added five.
"I felt like we were really attacking the ball well," commented Farmington's coach Becky Noble. "In the second game, we didn't serve receive the way that I'd hope and that kind of got us in a hole a little bit early, but we came back and did real well."
The Knightettes will have some time to rest before they head to the SEMO tournament on Friday and Saturday.
