STE. GENEVIEVE - The bragging rights football game between the cross-town rivals Ste. Genevieve Dragons and Valle Warriors is always an intense one, and Friday was no different. Ste. Genevieve came out strong in the first quarter, and that momentum continued to build as the contest went on. The Dragons dominated the Warriors 42-8. Ste. Genevieve's defense outscored Valle's offense 14-8.

The Dragons started on their own 28-yard line in the first possession of the contest. Taylor Huck broke through for a 10-yard run and Tanner Wolk connected on a pass to Garrett Ditch which was good enough for an 18-yard gain. Two plays later, Brad Uding ran through the middle untouched for a 31-yard touchdown. The extra point was good as Ste. Genevieve led 7-0 with 8:42 left in the first quarter.

Valle's first possession was on their own 19-yard line. Things didn't look too good for the Warriors as Ste. Genevieve's Kellen Stolzer recovered a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. The kick was good as the Dragons led 14-0 with 7:50 left in the first quarter.

Ste. Genevieve started on their own 45-yard line on their second possession of the game. Wolk connected two straight passes to Ditch for gains of nine and ten yards. The Dragons gained 15 yards on a face-mask call on Valle. Wolk completed another pass to Ditch good enough for 11 yards.

Huck immediately followed with a 10-yard run to place the Dragons one yard away from the end zone. Wolk kept the ball himself on teh next play as he broke through for the score. The kick was good as Ste. Genevieve led 21-0 with 3:38 left in the first quarter.

On Valle's next possession on their own 5-yard line, quarterback Sean Odneal was rushed as a hurried pass was picked off by Uding for another Dragons touchdown. The point after was good as Ste. Genevieve led 28-0.

The Dragons had a great start on their next possession as they began on their own 48. Wolk got the long bomb to work as he hooked up with Jacob Greminger for a 26-yard gain. Wolk immediately followed with a nice lob pass to Ditch for a 25-yard touchdown. The extra point was successful as Ste. Genevieve led 35-0 with 11:32 left in the half.

Neither team managed to score in the remainder of the half and the majority of the third quarter, which forced the clock to continuously run. On Ste. Genevieve's first possession of the second half, the Dragons almost scored again, but Valle stopped them with only two yards to go.

Valle immediately fumbled and Ste. Genevieve started on the Warriors' 7-yard line. Although the Dragons lost three yards on the first play, Chad Greminger had two runs both for five yards for the touchdown. The extra-point attempt was good as Ste. Genevieve led 42-0 with 4.5 seconds left in the third quarter.

Valle had a successful run off of the following kick off as the Warriors started on their own 48-yard line. Odneal kept the ball for a gain of eight and Colby Schilly ran for 11 yards. Nathan Grass ran to the right side for a 32-yard gain. Nathan Jokerst managed to get the one yard needed for the touchdown. Odneal connected on a pass to Jay Pope for the two-point conversion for the final points of the game.

It was the eighth straight time Ste. Genevieve defeated the Warriors, and the victory tied the crosstown series 21-21. The Dragons (2-0) will host Festus on Friday. Valle (1-1) will visit Maplewood the same day.
