Knightettes shut out Lady Tigers, remain undefeated in conference

FARMINGTON - The Farmington Knightettes tennis team continued their dominance in the MAAA conference with a victory Wednesday over the Arcadia Valley Lady Tigers. Farmington scored four shut-outs in completing a 9-0 sweep over the Lady Tigers.

Arcadia Valley's Kayla Gottman and Jessie Jones trailed Farmington's Ashtyn Miller and Sarah Barks 7-2. Although Gottman and Jones won the next two games, Miller and Barks won the following game to take the No. 1 doubles match.

Stephanie Forsythe and Ashley Hammers shut out Lacee Cofer and Kelly Besemer in the No. 2 doubles. Sidni Bloom and Alicia Murray easily triumphed 8-1 over Sarah Volner and Jayne Rey to round out doubles play.

Miller held a 5-4 edge over Jones in the No. 1 singles match, but Miller came out on top in the next three games. The No. 2 match between Barks and Gottman was a close one but in the end, Barks won 8-5. Monica Wolo triumphed 8-3 over Lacee Cofer in the No. 3 match.

Jessie Bayless toppled Besemer, Forsythe defeated Volner, and Brittney Murray emerged victorious over Rey all by a shutout.

Farmington (7-2, 5-0 MAAA) will host Jackson in a nonconference challenge today. The Lady Tigers (0-5 overall and conference) will host North County for another conference contest on Wednesday.

North County 6, Potosi 3

POTOSI - The North County Lady Raiders and the Potosi Lady Trojans had some very close matches on Wednesday. Although the matches could have changed the outcome of the meet, North County came out ahead 6-3.

Potosi's Adrieene Simpelo won the No. 2 singles match against Ann Poston 8-2. Kristina Brown defeated Alyssa Harris 8-4 in the No. 3 match and Katherine Nickelson toppled Faith Radosevich 8-3 in the No. 5 spot for the Lady Trojans' three wins.

North County's Anouk Breederveld triumphed 8-1 over Jessica Deal in the No. 1 singles match. Kristen Martin defeated Sarah Partney 8-6 and April Welch won 8-2 over Kristen Sansoucie.

Breederveld and Poston came out on top in a thrilling 9-8 victory with a 7-2 tiebreaker over Deal and Simpelo in the No. 1 doubles match. Harris and Martin also won in a tiebreaker in the No. 2 match. Harris and Martin defeated Brown and Partney 9-8 with a tiebreaker of 7-3. Radosevich and Welch emerged victorious over Nickelson and Sansoucie 8-1.

North County (4-1) will host Farmington for another conference showdown on Monday. Potosi (1-4) will participate in the Fredericktown Invitational on Saturday.
