FARMINGTON - The Farmington Knights soccer team has not lost a game yet this year, and the Farmington Knightettes tennis squad has not lost a conference match as well. The Knightettes Wednesday night win over Fredericktown gave Farmington the MAAA conference championship (see below).
The Knights have been beating opponents they have never beaten before, and Wednesday night on the new football field, they added the Jackson Indians to their win column.
It wasn't an easy one, but the Knights proved that they were a team that knew how to come back to win a game, which they did 2-1.
Jackson struck first with their goal at the seven-minute mark, but it would take the Knights 10 times as long to retaliate. It was at the 72 minute mark that Adam Blum found Brad Green with a pass that Green deposited in the goal for the Knights.
Six minutes later the Knights, who had switched to a three forward strategy would score again.
"I had pulled Matt Rhodes out a little to rest, and when I put him back in, I told him he was due, that it was time for a big one," said Farmington coach Rusty Sancegraw.
Rhodes must have taken the coach's words to heart as he kicked the game winner off of a volley (a ball in mid-air) with just two minutes left in the game.
Farmington's defense was outstanding in the game holding the Indians to only 12 shots on goal in the 80-minute game. Goalie Jordan Pannett made the 11 stops for the Knights.
The Knights are now 7-0-1 and will play next on Friday at the Jefferson City Tournament.
