Lady Cardinals suffer first loss to Angels

KASKASKIA - The Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals like their counterparts made the trip to Centralia, Illinois to play Kaskaskia in basketball. The men defeated the Blue Devils, but the Lady Cardinals were not so blessed as they fell to the Blue Angels 74-67 for their first loss of the year.

“It was a back and forth game all the way as far as the lead was concerned,” said MAC coach Lana LaBruyere. “They played zone a lot and slowed us down a bit, which took us out of our game.”

The Blue Angels had three of their starters on the bench for much of the first half with foul trouble, and Kaskaskia (2-1) led by only four at the half. Each time the Lady Cardinals would take the lead away, the Blue Angels were able to put together a run of points to retake it.

Fran Henderson led all MAC scorers with 19 points. Britany Sublett and Dionn Jackson were next at eight points, and Mayra Rios, Marquette Hollins and Natalie Rozenfeld had seven points each. Dawn Lathers and Erica Anderson scored four points each, and Whitney Washington had three to round out the scoring.

MAC will be at home on Monday to play the Washington University J.V.'s for their next game.
