Several MAAA teams start season with a win

MARQUAND - The Ste. Genevieve Dragons basketball team didn't face too much of a threat when they visited Marquand on Monday. The Dragons triumphed with a decisive 80-43 victory over Marquand.
Kyle Faulkner finished with an impressive 19 points for Ste. Genevieve. Eric Schrader finished with 11 points, and Mike Schlueter chipped in 10.
The Dragons (1-0) will participate in the Crystal City tournament starting on Monday. Ste. Genevieve will take on Grandview.

St. James 65, Potosi 48
ST. JAMES - The Potosi Trojans trailed St. James 11-10 after the first quarter on Monday, but St. James broke the game wide open. St. James scored 32 points, which included seven three-pointers, and they held Potosi to only seven points in the second quarter. St. James triumphed 65-48.
Jeremy Brown had a successful night for the Trojans as he finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Tyler Breakfield added 10 points, and recorded Potosi's lone three-pointer.
The Trojans will take on Perryville in Potosi's tournament on November 29.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Fredericktown 79, Woodland 29
MARBLE HILL - The Fredericktown Lady Cats clawed their way through Woodland on Monday. Fredericktown dominated with a 79-29 win.
Betsy Royer piled up 20 points for the Lady Cats, and almost completed a double-double with nine rebounds. Courtney Kemp added 13 points for Fredericktown.
The Lady Cats will participate in the Potosi tournament on Monday. Fredericktown will take on the host school.

Ste. Genevieve 59, Grandview 13
HILLSBORO - The Ste. Genevieve Hunters kicked off the basketball season on a positive note when they visited Grandview on Monday. Ste. Genevieve outscored Grandview 21-2 in the first quarter, and 22-1 in the second quarter. The Hunters traveled back home with a crushing 59-13 win.
Ste. Genevieve's Lindsay Rhodes led all scorers with 18 points. Kaley Meyer added eight points for the Hunters.
Ste. Genevieve will take on St. Vincent in the Valle tournament on Monday.
