Knights and CBC win Farmington tournament

FARMINGTON - The Farmington Knights held their wrestling tournament on Saturday and when the day was done, the Knights were winners of the Black Pool, and the CBC Cadets were winners of the Gold Pool.

Eight teams participated in the tournament which was sponsored by First Bank. The eight teams were split into two pols of four teams each with each team wrestling the four teams in the other pool. The pools were named ‘Black' and ‘Gold' after Farmington's school colors.

At the end of the four rounds, the top two teams in each pool wrestled for the Pool championship, and the next two teams wrestled a consolation match.

Farmington was 4-0 after the pool matches, and St. Clair was next at 3-1. Farmington defeated St. Clair in the Black Pool championship by a score of 45-34 to go 5-0 for the day with the tournament's best record. Webster Groves beat Sikeston by a score of 60-24 for the Condolation title.

CBC won the Gold title with a 59-20 win over Poplar Bluff. CBC was 4-1 in pool matches to finish 4-1 on the day. Parkway Central defeated Herculaneum 54-18 for the Gold consolation.

To get to the Black Pool title match, Farmington defeated Webster Groves 66-15, Sikeston 66-10, Poplar Bluff 59-12, and CBC 48-19.

The Knights had four wrestllers go undefeated in their five matches. Bradley Wisdom at 103, Joey Newland at 112 and 119, Craig Wilson at 125, and Justin Hill at 135 were all perfect on the day. Newland, Hill and Wilson won all of their five matches with a pin, and Wisdom had four pins. Jon Gurule at 145 was also undefeated in the only two matches he wrestled.

Finishing the day at 4-1 were Dennard Bryant (140), Kelly Burch (171), Jacob Hise (215/275), Kendall May (189), and Bobby Ferguson (215/275). Hise recorded four falls and Bryant, Burch, Burch and Ferguson had three falls each.

Farmington will wrestle next on Friday and Saturday at the Raytown South Tourney.
