Authorized Personnel Only

They are Authorized Personnel Only — better known as just APO.

The Potosi-based band plays hard rock, heavy metal or whatever gets people’s blood pumping, according to Mike Henson who started the band in 2004 with his brother, Kyle. He said they sound like Mudvayne, Flaw and Staind.

They play to entertain the crowd.

“We know people are there to see a show,” Mike said.

It’s Mike’s first band. Kyle had been the lead singer for Nothing But Silence.

They added Mike’s grade school buddy, Adam Wolf — better known as just “Wolf.” He became lead vocals while Kyle is guitar/back-up vocals and Mike is bass and back-up vocals.

After going through a few drummers, they found Lehman Stevens who Wolf met through a softball team.

Lehman’s dad, Derel, who has played in several bands including Classix and Midnight Angel, loaned the band some of his equipment and began taping their performances. A year ago, Derel joined the band officially, playing lead guitar.

Mike said Derel was a good fit because he knew the songs and he is able to do “a lot of soloing for us.”

Lehman is by far the youngest member of the band. He’s only 17 but he’s been playing in bands since he was 13. Lehman still plays with another band, One Night in May, formerly known as Revery.

Not surprisingly, Lehman admits he gets picked on the most.

Mike said Wolf is the most distinctive character in the group. He wanders through the audience, interacting with the crowd. During a recent performance for the Daily Journal Relay For Life Battle of the Bands, he ended up on a roof.

Mike said they like doing stuff for Relay For Life. They have family members who have battled cancer.

The band played in the Country Days Parade this year.

The band says they will go wherever the road takes them. They are keeping their options open.

They’d love to tour. Band members said it would be awesome to have it as a job and to have someone else to set up the equipment.

But for now, they are not too good to play anywhere — parks, barns, or concert venues. They have played anywhere between Kansas City and Chicago but mostly in this area.

Mike said they have been talking about getting a recording done but that takes money. They’ve been using their money to build up their stage equipment “to put on a great show.”

“We’re always talking about ways to improve the live show,” he said.

They are also writing new stuff now — something fresh with new power. They want to be different than other bands. Like Motley Crue with a hint of Alice in Chains.

They hope to have new songs done for their July 14 show which is Action For A Cure show at the Centene Center, Farmington.

The next show after that is at 7 p.m. July 20 at Jay’s Bar and Grill in Farmington.

I have ran over cats that sound better than that, the drummer is the only decent player you have.
