To my surprise, I really liked this movie. I have to admit I didn’t think I would like it. Somehow, a movie based on someone looking out of his window doesn’t seem like a hit. However, Kale (Shia LaBeouf), a teen who is placed on house arrest, does a great job of making the movie exciting, funny and scary all at the same time.
Kale loses his father in a car accident. When his teacher makes a careless remark, he punches him out and is sentenced to house arrest his entire summer. When his mom takes his TV and Xbox away, the teen spies on his neighbors to pass the time. In the process, he develops a fascination and friendship with the new girl next door, Ashley (Sarah Roemer).
The couple, along with a high school friend, Ronnie (Aaron Roo), become convinced that a neighbor, Mr. Turner (David Morse) is a serial killer. Kale’s ankle bracelet (for house arrest) is his lifeline. When he passes 100 feet from the box, the police are signaled. After two false predictions and police encounters, Ashley and Ronnie give up on the “serial killer” theory.
When Kale’s mother goes to Mr. Turner’s house, things get personal for him and the heat gets turned up!
Although the movie was much more than I expected, I still wasn’t fully impressed with the plot line.
