Fredericktown 8th Grade Lady Cats
The Fredericktown Eighth Grade Lady Cats played three games last week, January 7-9.

Monday, the Cats fell at West County, 40-12. Casey Wright led with five points, Amanda Abernathy had three, and Sara Fults and Megan Brewer each scored two.

Tuesday, the Cats hosted Potosi, and FMS won, 27-14.

Abernathy and Courtney Tinnin led with eight points, each. Monica Torrez scored six, Bridget Allgier and Cortney White each scored two, and Wright scored one. Coach Ken Lunsford also added that Fults had a strong game defensively, getting “several steals in the back of our press.”

Wednesday, the Cats improved to 5-7 with an 18-8 victory at Valley (Caledonia).

“You could tell that this was our third stright game coming back from the break,” Lunsford said. “I am proud of these young ladies. They have played their hearts out to get the fifth victory of the season.

The Seventh Grade girls split two recent games.

January 7, they won 32-22, at West County.

“This was a good win for us going into tourney play,” Coach Paula Sawyer said.

Terra Helm led with 13 points. Kara Lunsford scored 12.

“Kara Lunsford stepped up in this game with her free throw shooting,” Sawyer said. “She went six for six from the line.”

Taylor Capone, Anna Godsey, and Brooke Tonjum added two points, each. Nicole Burns scored one.

Capone led with six rebounds. Helm had five, and Lunsford had four.

January 8, the seventh grade Lady Cats lost a nail biter with Potosi.

“This was our last regular season game,” Coach Sawyer said.

The seventh grade conference tournament is being played this week.

“This was an exciting ball game to watch,” Sawyer added. “The girls left everything on the floor. I’m very proud of them.

Godsey paced the Cats with 13 points. Helm had seven, Burns had five, Lunsford had four, and Tonjum had two.

The FMS Boys teams also played West County last week. Both the seventh and eighth grade teams scored victories, January 7.

The seventh grade boys won, 47-14. Zach Proffer led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points. Nick Oertel had nine, Alex Brannum, Justin Sawyer, and Jeremy Gremminger each scored four, James Royer had three, and Nathan Allgier, Patrick Kline, and Garrett Burns scored one point, each.

The eight grade boys won, 42-34. Tanner Ward led the way with 15 points. Keith Jackson scored 11, Alex Wade had ten, and Bryant Barks had six.

“I am pleased with our teams,” Coach Thompson said. “We are making progress each day. I hope the progress will    continue throught he upcoming Conference tournament, but we need to take each game and practice one day at a time.

“Potosi is next, so hopefully we will continue to perofrm well.”
