February 7, 1908

A brother of oil king John D. Rockefeller was in Fredericktown this past week visiting the North American Copper Smelter. He was accompanied by 2 directors of the North American. They stayed at the Madison Hotel.

The nickel made at the North American is the only nickel in the world made from  American ore, and is as high a grade as any nickel in the world.

February 13, 1958

A new radio system has been installed for the Sheriff’s department. Sheriff Paul Rose and deputy N.F. Whitener have mobile units. Deputy T.J. Greer will have a mobile unit installed soon.

The elementary school was closed due to no heat. Principal Harold Eberhart said the furnace has been repaired.

The Northern Lights             (Aurora Borealis) were observed by many residents Monday evening.

Darryl Asher, Bill Killian, Joe Bowling, and Bill Dowd took part in yearbook skits by dressing as cheerleaders.

February 10, 1983

Madison County was denied  federal disaster aid for the flooding that occured in December.

Lois Starkey will chair a bike-a-thon in Marquand to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

February 4, 1998

Newly elected extension council members are Cydney Cox, Gerald Firebaugh, Patty Hale, Rick Magnus, LuAnne Moyers, Tom Priday and Wayne Sitler.

The Fredericktown Middle School Eigth Grade Lady Cats won the conference tournament. They finished the year 13-2.

The Elks student of the month was Risha Sheets.
