Spotlight on Mr. Plow
Many margaritas later ...
Three former members of the Elevator Band have formed a new classic rock group with a new sound and a new lead singer. They call themselves Mr. Plow.
According to them, in September of 2007, Mr. Plow was conceived after many, many margaritas very late one night on a beach in the Bahamas. Jimmy Brotherton, Steve Wright and Jim Burmeister were passing the time the night before a very rare international gig and say they were “medicating themselves with as many margaritas as the waitress would deliver.”
They weren’t happy with their current band. Many ideas were discussed and dismissed that night.
Jim had some ideas. Steve had some ideas but Jimmy just wouldn’t shut up about an old friend of his who was currently in the market for a new gig.
To make a long story short, they say, in the early morning glare of a Bahamian sunrise and after some more margaritas, a plan was made.
They formed Mr. Plow with Tim Govero of Festus. He is a 20-year veteran of many bands including Red Rover, and Medallion. He plays guitar, keyboard and percussion.
Tim, Jim, Steve and Jimmy say Mr. Plow is chock full of soaring harmonies and a lot of feeling by experienced, harmony-prone singers just like in the good ole days of rock-n-roll. They have two talented multi-instrumentalists, a “grooving bedrock” of a rhythm section, and a drummer who is as fun to watch as hear.
They want to emphasize it is not another Elevator Band. They say they have a new songlist, a new and growing following, a more entertaining stage show and a new attitude. The songlist includes 300 cover tunes and more than 30 originals.
That being said, they add that they are still a new band trying to answer the question, who the heck is Mr. Plow?
About the other members
Jim Burmeister (guitar, vocals, harmonica and fiddle) has a music career spanning almost 30 years, performing just about every kind of music (many on the road). He knows hundreds of songs and can pick the strings off of any instrument that has them. He is a former member of Kartunes, and Beaver Bros.
Steve Wright (bass guitar/vocals) has 20-plus years of playing and singing in a variety of bands. The earth-shaking bass player is formally from the Florissant area where he anchored many bands in the St. Louis scene. He also played with Kartunes.
Jimmy Brotherton’s (drums, percussion) main task is to keep the rest of the band and audience at the top of their game. He’s described as a show-stopping drummer. He is a former member of Red Rover, and Beaver Bros.
