April 3, 1908

The City Council met and raised city taxes from forty cents to fifty cents on $100 valuation. The Democrat News thanked the Lord that this is the limit they can raise taxes.

Sheriff Osborn arrested an escapee from the Farmington asylum.

The woman who shot and killed her daughter was found guilty by a jury and was sentenced to two years in prison. She was paroled by the judge.

April 4, 1958

A proposal to go on daylight savings tame was defeated 545 to 366. Poplar Bluff, Crystal City, St. Louis, Festus and DeSoto will go on daylight savings time but the Leadbelt area will not.

Harley Baker was elected city marshall.

Black River Electric’s board of directors passed a resolution to move it’s headquarters from Ironton to Fredericktown.

March 13, 1983

Jami Brown and Lora Cooper were the winners of the Voice of Democracy contest sponsored by the VFW.

A gun show was held at the National Guard Armory.

Low water forced the cancellation of the whitewater races.

April 1, 1998

The 13th annual All School Choral Festival was held.

Missouri Secretary of State Rebecca Cook was in Fredericktown to speak to high school students about the importance of voting.

Marquand-Zion Tiger Dusty Stephens was selected to the All State Basketball Team.
