Raiders win on courts, Knights edged out by Cape

FESTUS — The North County Raiders tennis team defeated the St. Pius Lancers Wednesday 6-3.
The Raiders won four of the six singles matches. In the number one match North County’s Frederik Beckmann beat Bob Vogt 8-2.
North County lost the next two matches. Andrew Blunt was defeated by Tim Klopries 8-6 and Robert Rinnell lost to Steven Brinkmeyer 8-3.
The remaining singles matches went to the Raiders. In the number four singles match Aleksi Kuokkanen defeated Cooper Bacon 8-4. In the number five singles match Raider Stephen Edgar won 8-6 against Anne Killian. Mark Elders took the last singles match of the day by defeating Mike Ortmann 8-4.
The Raiders won two of the three matches as Beckmann and Blunt defeated Brinkmeyer and Bacon 8-1 and Rinnell and Edgars defeated Vogt and Klopries 8-5.
St. Pius won the last doubles match of the day with Killian and Ortmann beating Kuokkanen and Zach Perry 8-6.
North County will play next at De Soto on Monday.
Cape Central 5, Farmington 4
CAPE GIRARDEAU — The Farmington Knights suffered a slim loss to the Cape Central Tigers 5-4 on Wednesday losing two matches in doubles play and three of their singles matches. The format for the matches was two sets with a tiebreaker if the sets were split.
Farmington lost the first doubles match of the day. Colton Reynolds and Eric Fuemmeler were defeated by David Berry and Pat Duffy 2-6, 6-7
The Knights won the second doubles match as Justin Arnold and Andrew Maurer beat Will LaFoe and Garrett McMillan 6-4, 6-1.
The last doubles match of the afternoon was decided by a tiebreaker. Samip Patel and Flavio Mericio lost the first game of the match against Tigers Brandon Gonzales and Tyler Hubbard 6-7, but won the second game 6-4. The 10-2 tiebreaker went to Gonzales and Hubbard.
The No. 1 singles match was also decided by a tiebreaker. Farmington’s Justin Arnold was defeated by David Berry 4-6, 6-0, with a 9-11 tie-break.
The Knights won the next two matches. Reynolds beat Duffy in the tiebreaker 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 and Eric Fuemmeler beat LaFoe, also in a tied game, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.
Cape won matches four and five. Gonzales defeated Maurer 6-0, 7-5, and McMillan defeatedLedbetter 6-2, 6-7, 7-3.
Farmington managed to win the last singles match of the day as Drew Fuemmeler beat Andrew Schupert 6-4, 6-4.
The Knights (10-4) will not play again until the district tournament next Thursday in Sikeston.
GIRLS SOCCER
Sikeston 8, Fredericktown 0
FREDERICKTOWN — The Lady Cats were shut-out Wednesday by the Sikeston Bulldogs 8-0.
The Blackcats only had one shot on goal for the game. Goalkeeper Rachel Settle made 11 saves for the Lady Cats.
Fredericktown will play at North County on Monday.
SOFTBALL
Bismarck 12, Kingston 4
IRONTON — The Bismarck softball team improved to 3-0 on the spring season with a 12-4 victory over Kingston on Tuesday.
Heather Barton had a perfect 4-for-4 day with two RBI at the plate, and Alisha Kell went 3-for-4 with a double and triple. Megan Counts finished 2-for-2 with a double, triple and three RBI, while Andrea Koenig added two singles.
Winning pitcher Tori Henson allowed four hits and struck out four in five innings. Henson also helped lead the Bismarck offense by going 3-for-3.
Freshman Emilee Dicus had two hits for Kingston.
