Mineral Area College Foundation is preparing for the 2008 Tee Off For MAC Foundation Golf Tournament. The four-person scramble will be held May 14 at Crown Pointe Golf Club (formerly Eagle Lake Golf Club) in Farmington. The tournament tee time is 1 p.m.
"We've received several team registrations and hole sponsorships so far," says Peggy Ropelle with Mineral Area College Foundation. "I know the weather has not been friendly to area golfers but I hope everyone will take time to organize their teams and send in their team registrations."
The tournament is open to male and female golfers of various skill levels. The $300 team registration fee includes green fees, cart rentals, complimentary beverages and a post-tournament meal. Prizes and contests on the course are planned again this year. The tournament repeats its expanded prize package for golfers, and a putting contest will be added this year.
Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each. "This is a great way to advertise your business and for alumni to financially support the college," Ropelle said. Items are also being accepted as door prizes. Paver bricks can also be ordered on the golf tournament flyer.
The funds raised by this year's tournament are earmarked for MAC's Career & Technical Education Division's Enhancement Grant program.
MAC's Vice President of College Affairs Gil Kennon, who oversees the Career & Technical Division, said the Enhancement Grant is a great financial opportunity. The Enhancement Grant is a state program which offers matching funds to assist with equipment and other costs associated with programs in the career and technical fields.
"For the upcoming year, MAC is submitting a significant funding request to support needs in our Law Enforcement Academy and nursing, computer networking and paramedic areas," Kennon said. "To keep pace with technology changes and the escalating equipment costs, the college uses the $3-for-$1 matching grant opportunity to bring three of our own tax dollars back to MAC for every one dollar we spend."
