POPLAR BLUFF — The Farmington Knights managed to elude Wednesday’s drenching rains to get in their game against the Poplar Bluff Mules, and they picked up a 6-2 win in the process.
Farmington (12-9) scored early with two runs in each of the first and third innings, and then hung on.
Nick Baker started on the mound for the Knights, but had a little problem with control as he gave up only one hit, but walked five batters and hit one in the first three innings. Reliever Andy Summers took over and for all intent and purposes shut down Bluff’s offense, allowing only three hits and two walks in four winnings.
The Knights had only six hits against Bluff’s pitching, but once on base they used their speed to swipe bases and gain scoring position. Both Isaac Armstrong and Alex Freund were 1-3 with a double and both had two stolen bags.
Zach Hibbitts was 2-2 with two RBI, and Adam Blum and Bryan Krause both hit singles in the game.
Farmington will play next at home on Saturday at 3 p.m. against De Soto in their district tournament’s opening round.
