ANNAPOLIS — The Valle Warriors were supposed to win, the Valley Vikings were not, at least that’s what the seedings represented. Both teams won and they will meet this afternoon in their district’s first semi-final game at 2 p.m.
Valle 12, Viburnum 0
Senior Mike Ramer kept the Viburnum BlueJays offense very simple. One hit, five strike-outs and a 12-0 win for the Valle Warriors in the opening round of the Class 1, District 3 tournament.
Ramer had plenty of help from his teammates as they posted him to a 12-0 lead after only three innings. The Warriors had 11 singles as a team, Nathan Geile was the only player to hit two. Mike Greminger, Casey Koller, Derek Koller, Aaron Basler, Christian Moulton, Zach Weiler, Adam Oberle, Brandon Wolk and Ramer all had one single each in the five-inning game.
Valley 5, Oak Ridge 1
No runs were scored in the first five innings of the opening round game between the Valley Vikings and Oak Ridge, but when the Vikings got their bats rattling they scored all five of their tallies in the last two frames with Oak Ridge only managing one for a 5-1 final score.
“We (both teams) didn’t have a baserunner until the top of the fifth,” said Valley coach Levi Rawson.
Josh Akers threw a two-hitter in disposing of the Oak Ridge batters with 11 strike-outs. He issued only one walk in his seven innings of work.
Joe Fahland was 2-3 at the plate with a double, Matt Owens was 2-4 with three RBI. Tim Pickett, A.J. Pierce and Kyle Halbert had one single each.
