Two Lady Cats qualify for state track meet
The Fredericktown High School Track Teams performed at the Class 3 State Sectional Meet, Saturday, May 17, at Ste. Genevieve.

“Our kids were prepared to do their best and were successful,’’ Cats Coach Chuck Ford said.

The Cats qualified two girls for the the state meet this weekend in Jefferson City. They are Junior Kylie Oertel and Sophomore Miriah Korokis. Oertel took second place in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 34 feet, seven and one half inches. Korokis took third in the discus with a personal best and new JV record of 112-2.

“Even though we didn’t make it in the other events, I am very proud of the effort given and this was a very successful season for us since at the beginning we did not look very good on paper,’’ Ford said. “It is a tribute to our athletes and hopefully with another full year of training, we can send more to the state meet next year.”

In other events in the sectionals, Brittney Davis was seventh in the long jump at 15-4-1/2. Oertel was fifth in the 100 high hurdles with a personal best time of 16.38 seconds. Chris Stearley was sixth in the shot put with a personal best of 46-6. Also, Korokis was fifth in the shot at 36-2.
