Fete de Chaumette
Wednesday, July 02, 2008
The third annual Fete de Chaumette will be held July 12.

Chaumette Winery’s Fete de Chaumette is a festival of regional wine, foods, arts, goods and entertainment, promoting Missouri’s local producers and products.

Sixteen wineries, 12 food producers and 14 local craftspeople and retailers will participate from the Ste. Genevieve region and beyond. It will be held on the winery’s grounds from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“We are thrilled to host our third annual Fête, as producers and consumers alike really appreciate our efforts to create an annual marketplace and festival for them to meet, discover and enjoy a multitude of local products all at one place,” said owner, Hank Johnson.

Each participating vendor will sell and sample their products. Chaumette’s Grapevine Grill will serve barbecue all day, featuring a menu that includes ingredients that food producers will sell at the event.

This indoor/outdoor event is family friendly and kids’ activities include turtle racing, kite flying, bobbing for apples and boulés. There will be live entertainment all day, including Elsie Parker, who plays French classics and originals, and Ambiance, who plays contemporary jazz, Motown and light R&B.

The event is free of charge, but a $20 parking fee per car will be collected, encouraging carpooling. Plenty of covered and uncovered outdoor seating for guests will be available. For more information, call 573-747-1000 or visit http://www.chaumette.com.

Wineries participating include Chaumette Winery, Charleville Vineyard & Winery, Hemman Winery, Les Bourgeois Vineyards, Meramec Vineyards, Peaceful Bend Vineyard, River Ridge Winery, Sainte Genevieve Winery, Shady Grove Vineyards, St. Francois Vineyards, St. James Winery, Thousand Oaks Winery, Tower Rock Winery, Twin Oaks Vineyard, Vance Vineyard & Winery and Villa Antonio Winery.

Food producers include Baetje Goat Cheese from Bloomsdale, County Line Farms from St. Mary, Fruitland American Meats from Jackson, Hale Farms from Farmington, Ladd Family Farm from Farmington, Monroe Farm from Berryman, Pioneer Apple Orchards & Market from Jackson, Sayersbrook Bison from Potosi, Show Me Fresh Farms from Cape Girardeau, Stonie's Sausage Shop from Perryville, Windrush Farm from Farmington, and Herbs en' Route from Farmington.

The Mississippi River Hills Association, a non-profit comprised of local producers promoting local products, will participate and support Chaumette’s promotional efforts.

Additionally, information about how to find local foods in the St. Louis and regional areas will be made available for guests at this event, including a list of local food products available at Whole Foods, information about St. Louis and regional farmer’s markets, and information about other upcoming events focused on showcasing local products.

Retailers and other local craftspeople include Art by Iris, Ivy & Twigs, J. Brick Pottery, Joyce & Choyce’s Antiques, Lulu's Antiques, Nancy Dee's Antiques, Only Child Originals, Patchwork Acres Goat’s Milk Soaps, Stained Glass Mosaics, Stone House Willow, The Stained Glass Shop, Vines in Bloom/Klossner Studios and Zielinski’s.

Chaumette’s Fête de Chaumette originated five years ago as a celebration of the French holiday Bastille Day to commemorate the rich French heritage of Ste. Genevieve. Over the years, the festival has grown to something even more prominent and encompassing a market and festival for regional cuisine, arts, and entertainment.

Established in 1990 by Hank and Jackie Johnson, Chaumette Vineyards & Winery is located in Ste. Genevieve County 20 miles southwest of Ste. Genevieve.
