FARMINGTON — Outstanding pitching from Devin Hampton and an early scoring strike helped the Potosi Pumas polish off a National Division title in MABA Junior Babe Ruth action on Wednesday night with a 5-0 victory over the Farmington Dolphins.

Hampton compiled 13 strikeouts and walked just one man while dealing a four-hit shutout for the win. Although three lead-off batters reached base against Hampton, the Dolphins failed to advance a runner to third base.

The Pumas (10-3) capitalized on a game-opening walk to Derrick Thebeau when Hampton plugged the right-center gap with a RBI triple. A fielder’s choice by Dylan Eye quickly built a 2-0 lead.

Dolphins starter Logan Bradley prevented further damage in the opening frame with a pair of key strikeouts, but saw his deficit grow after a throwing error in the fourth.

A ground ball could have resulted in a force out after singles by D.J. Eckoff and Eric McCoy helped to load the bases with no outs, but the throw home skipped to the backstop, allowing both Eckoff and Matt McCoy to score.

The Dolphins squandered a single and stolen base from Phillip Kreitler during the second, as Eye made an excellent stumbling catch in shallow right field. A lead-off double by Colby Yordy in the fourth was also wasted.

Eye singled and scored on a passed ball in the Pumas’ seventh to complete the scoring. Shortstop Ross Politte added two walks and a sacrifice bunt.

Bradley recorded seven strikeouts in defeat for the Dolphins (8-4) before Kreitler fanned four over three frames of relief. Brian Koppeis and Conner Eaton added singles for Farmington.

Phillip Kreitler tallied three hits with a triple and two runs scored, and Dante Castro collected four RBI on a pair of two-run singles for the Dolphins. Logan Bradley had two singles while Nathan Komar, Joey Hagan and John Reed added one each.
