This weekend will be a big weekend for local country/southern rock band, Whiskey Creek.

The band will perform at 7 p.m. Friday as part of the Park Hills summer concert series at Columbia Park. The concert is free.

On Saturday, the band will perform at the St. Francois County Fairgrounds after the truck and tractor pull at about 8 p.m. The concert is free with $6 general admission to the fair and is sponsored by Hub’s Pub in Bonne Terre.

“We’re really excited,” said member, Matt Helms. “We’re going to have a good time.”

Some changes have been made in the band with the recent additions of Jeremy Ray and Matt Childs. Other members are Fred Oder and Buck Jackson.

For the past few years, Whiskey Creek has been playing their music from Cape Girardeau to St. Louis. They play at least every weekend — if not more.

Last weekend, they played in Poplar Bluff at the Highway W Club and the owners liked them so much they asked them to come back Aug. 15-16.

The band cut a CD about three months ago in Nashville with producer and live radio show host, Billy Block. Helms said Block has been playing some of the music on the radio in Nashville.

They have LaDeDa Entertainment for their booking agent. For more information, visit http://www.LaDeDaEntertainment.com

“We’re getting our name out there,” Helms said.

Helms recently competed in Nashville Star, making it in the top 300 out of 30,000.

The St. Francois County Fair kicked off Tuesday and continues today with Confederate Railroad’s performance at 7:30 p.m.

The country music act will perform on the race track at the fairgrounds. Admission to the concert is free with the $6 general admission. Local band, Thunder Creek, will open for Confederate Railroad.

On Friday, The Memphis boys will perform a free show at 7 p.m.
