Breastfeeding Baby Shower to be held Friday
St. Francois County Health Center will host a Breastfeeding Baby Shower at 1 p.m., Friday. It will be held at Mineral Area Baptist Church.
The shower is open to all pregnant or breastfeeding women and their support person.
Gifts include savings bonds, diapers, photography studio certificates, 4 in 1 bassinet, grocery certificates and much more.
USA Drug, Mercy Care Plus and Harmony Health Plan will be represented at the shower.
Christy Fields, Breastfeeding Peer Counselor at St. Francois County Health Department, and organizer of the Breastfeeding Baby Shower, said community businesses have been generous for the past five years in donating items for the shower.
The church is located at 2014 Church Road in Park Hills. Make a left at the intersection of Hwy. 8 and P by the flashing lights. Signs will be posted.
A Breastfeeding Task Force is being formed for the area. The first meeting was held Wednesday and went well. The task force is open to health care professionals and anyone interested in helping nursing mothers.
They established their two main goals are to get women early help, while they are still in the hospital and to extend the duration women breastfeed.
Three representatives from USA Drug were present, as well as Ladies First OBGYN, Jefferson Memorial Hospital and others. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m., Sept. 17 at the health center.
