From The Farmington Press, Aug. 22, 1968

• Farmington had been named a Four-Star City for meeting g the state requirements in the category of community service and in particular for meeting the requirements in the police department.

• Enrollment was taking place in the Farmington School District. A teaching staff of 124 members would be on hand for the start of the new term.

• A huge rock was thrown through the plate glass window of the Gift Chest Jewelry Store on West Columbia Street and the window cleared out of all items in reach of the thief.

• The St. Francois County Fair was under way at the new fairgrounds. The horse and pony ring received the final touches just preceding the opening. Special performances would feature the all new “Duke of Paducah” show.

• A special “School Year Subscription” for the Farmington Press was offered for students at nine months for $2.

From The Farmington Evening Press, Aug. 21-25, 1978

• A petition bearing approximately 45 signatures in opposition to the proposed expansion of Farmington’s municipal runway was being circulated by residents in the Perrine Road area.

• The Casino Roller Rink would sponsor a skate-a-thon for muscular dystrophy in connection with the Jerry Lewis Labor Day telethon.

• Playing at the Roseland Theatre in Flat River was “Jaws 2".

• Maple Street in Farmington was busy as a group of kids rode their bikes just before they started back to school. Bike riders included Randy Hammers, Rod Mell, David Burns, Scott Henderson, and Dwayne Johnson.

• On sale at “your friendly IGA store” was Tickle deodorant for $1.89 and Body on Tap Shampoo for $1.65.

From The Farmington Press Advertiser, Aug 16-19, 1988

• The Farmington R-7 Board of Education was given approval to obtain a $1.5 million loan from the state to finance the building projects in the district. The capital improvement projects were scheduled for the high school and middle school.

• Presidential candidate Gov. Michael Dukakis and his wife were to arrive in Bismarck on Aug. 19.

• Winners in the Wiggle and Giggle fishing derby were Greg Rapp, Steven Basler, Eddie Boyd, Justin Snyder, Michael Powers, and Marcus Mecey.

• Kentucky Fried Chicken advertised 12 pieces of chicken plus two large sides for $10.99.

• LifeBeat from Southeast Missouri Hospital celebrated its first anniversary of service to the region.

From The Daily Press Leader, Aug. 20-26, 1998

• An issue before the Farmington City Council was concerning the city vehicle stickers and if they should be discontinued.

• Farmington street workers placed a new stop sign at the intersection of Maple Valley Drive and Maple Street.

• A story about Tom and Leslie Burcham introduced their two sons — who arrived to their home in America in June.

• Aaron Wright, who was a 22-year old junior at Mizzou, spent his summer vacation in Germany and won $2,800 on a German quiz show.

• Krekeler Jewelers celebrated its 60th year in the jewelry business.
