The Madison County Democrat Club annual golf tournament was held at Southern Oaks Golf Course in Fredericktown on August 15, 2008. The three-person scramble was won by a team sponsored by the “Courthouse Gang” consisting of Loy Cooper, Adam Cooper and Brent Hamilton. Loy Cooper won for closest to the pin on Hole 2 and was presented with a set of golf clubs given by Mike Winder.

Other winners for the day were the second place team sponsored by Jerry Howard. They were Bob and Joanne Carter and Darrnell Phillips of Piedmont. The third place winners were sponsored by Jon Daniel, and they were Jon Daniel, Pete Rau, and Wesley Knight. All the players received door prizes, and Doug Settle of Marquand won the 50-50 drawing for the day.

Players enjoyed morning refreshments served outside by members of the Democrat Club. At the conclusion of the tournament they were treated to a pork steak meal served in the clubhouse. Candidates for office spoke briefly to the crowd of players and supporters. They were Mike Winder, candidate for State Representative in District 156, Joe Allen, candidate for Congressman in Missouri 8th District, Keith DeSpain, candidate for Madison County Commissioner in District 1, and Larry Brewington, candidate for Public Administrator.
