Foundation Chosen for Hands-on Experiential Learning Project (HELP)
Wednesday, September 10, 2008
Debbie Robinson and Carole Magnus participated in a two day seminar in Jefferson City last week and came away with many ideas and approaches to make the historic sites in Fredericktown even more appealing to locals and visitors alike.
Debbie Robinson, President of the Foundation, commented, "We are so excited to have been chosen for this project. We try very hard to make our organization a vital part of our community. It is a real privilege to receive hands-on training to assist us in our efforts."
The other communities selected were: Savannah, Fayette, Kansas City, Malden, Carrollton, Kearney, St. Louis, Excelsior Springs, Pierce City, Versailles, Branson, New Madred, Sikeston, Joplin, Bloomfield, University City, Webb City and Forsyth..
The purpose of the training will concentrate on improvements non-profits can make in how they operate their organizations. A museum expert will be coming to Fredericktown on October 4th to meet with Foundation members and survey all of the historic sites and make recommendations on ways to improve these venues.
HELP combines workshops, on-site consultant visits, and on line tutorials to assist museums in goal-setting and evaluation. Mid-America subsidizes all workshop travel and a portion of each museum's attendance at a state or regional museum conference. This will allow participants to connect with peers in the field and other statewide organizations.
Mid-America wants to strengthen existing in-state networks and help participating museums build a network to share challenges and jointly find solutions. For more information contact Carole at 573-576-8528.
