Blackcats Football Homecoming
Twenty hours after the scheduled kickoff, the Blackcats Football team won its Homecoming game, 35-16, over Scott City.

The game was scheduled for Friday night, but severe thunderstorms and lightening postponed the game until Saturday afternoon.

The Cats came out and scored twice, quickly. The first was a  71-yard touchdown scamper by Joey Lewandowski. The second was an 18-yard bootleg by Quarterback A.P. Lewandowski. It was 15-0 with 7:43 to play in the first quarter.

Both team’s offenses bogged down the rest of the half, as light mist was falling on the field. The halftime score was 15-0.

The rain got a little stronger in the third quarter, and so did the Cats’ play. On their second possession of the third quarter, the Cats scored on a 32-yard run by Joey Lewandowski. The FHS lead was 22-0 with 8:16 to play in the third quarter. Just over a minute later, Lewandowski scored from 20 yards out and the lead was 29-0. The final touchdown came at the 5:55 mark of the third quarter. It was a 33-yard run by Joey Lewandowski to make the score 35-0. In a span of two minutes, 21 seconds, the Blackcats scored three times and put the game out of reach.

Scott City was able to score twice in the fourth quarter, after the Cats substituted for their starters.

Joey Lewandowski finished with 16 carries for 191 yards and four  scores. A.P. Lewandowski had two carries for 55 yards. Jacob Farmer had six carries for 24 yards. A.P. Lewandowski completed four of eight passes for 53 yards. Zach Sohn caught two passes for 34 yards. Ryan Gifford caught the other two for 19 yards.

Note: The Blackcats travel to East Prairie, Friday night. The FHS Marching Band will be performing at halftime of this road game. Due to a lack of seating, FHS fans coming to the game are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
