Student Council
Fourth grade students at Jefferson Elementary have been busy campaigning, and giving their speeches to be elected as Student Council members. Twelve children were elected as representatives and are now fulfilling their duties. The Student Council members participate and help organize several activities throughout the school year like running the school store, and they act as the Safety Patrol during fire, tornado, and earthquake drills. The members help arrange several fundraisers for other Jefferson Elementary students and parents to get involved with such as Christmas food and toy drives and the McDonald’s Night at the local restaurants. Another responsibility a member holds is being a Student Ambassador, when new students start at Jefferson Elementary the Council Member will make sure the new student knows their teachers and their way around the school. This is an incredible learning experience for the children and allows them to gain leadership qualities, build self-confidence and maybe even make new friendships. Being a Student Council Member is something the kids can continue through their schooling and lessons they can keep for life. - Farmington Press photo by Mayanna Gilliam
