Farmington is third in tennis, fifth and eighth in cross country

WAYNESVILLE —The Farmington Knightettes, after sweeping the MAAA Conference Tournament on Thursday, traveled to play in the Waynesville Invitational on Saturday, and they finished third in the meet.

Courtney Jensen and Alicia Murray placed fourth in the doubles competition out of 16 teams, and Kaitlyn Crocker took sixth in singles.

Farmington, 12-2, will play next in their district tournament held at Sikeston starting on Thursday.

Cross Country

CAPE GIRARDEAU
— The Farmington boys and girls cross country teams participated in the Cape Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday with several good results.

The boys finished fifth in the meet and the girls took eighth in their division. Festus won first place in both divisions with the Tigers scoring 42 to Notre Dame’s second-place finish at 46. Farmington’s score as a team was 121, and North County finished seventh with 212.

The Lady Tigers won first with a team score of 36. The Ste. Genevieve Hunters were next at 73, North County came in seventh at 149, and Farmington was eighth at 167.

Ryan Hathaway led the way for the Knights with a 20th place finish at 16:53. Ben Schwalenberg was 23rd at 17:01, Colton Wooldridge came in 25th at 17:08, Derrick Scales was 33rd at 17:27, and Alex Cofer was 38th at 17:35.

“Hathaway’s time was the first time in seven years that a Farmington runner has broken the 17-minute mark,” said Coach Jordan Stone who was very pleased with his runners’ accomplishments.

Leading the Knightettes was Angie Turner, who took 24th place with a time of 21:36. Jacqueline Wolf was 27th at 21:45, Cassidy Whitener was 40th at 22:53, just two seconds in front of teammate Taylin Persons. Justine Allison finished 49th at 23:22.

Ste. Genevieve placed three runners in the Top 10. Lydia Huelskamp took fifth place, Jennifer Bauman was seventh and Ashley Brewster was 10th. 

Alyssa Allison of Festus was first in the girls record with a course and also meet record of 18:23.86. Connor Callahan of DeSmet was first on the boys side with a time of 15:38.

Farmington will run again when they host their next meet on October 20.
