Fredericktown receives Award and $15,000 check
Friday, October 10, 2008
Representatives from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB-Des Moines) were at the Pickin’ on the Square Grand Finale on October 3, 2008 to present the City of Fredericktown with a grant for $15,000 as part of the Bank’s Capital Community Award Program.
Fredericktown Mayor Danny Kemp, Interim City Administrator Jim Dismuke, Vista Worker Shanna Sorg and bank representatives were on hand to accept the award. Dismuke said the city will use the money, in part, to extend the current Americorp Vista worker’s contract for one year and to hire a second Vista worker.
The 2008 Missouri Capital Community was chosen based on their progressive approach toward economic development and improvement. Businesses and community members throughout Fredericktown are currently working towards completing 24 issues outlined in the 2008-09 Job Development Program. The long-term goal of this program is to double the number of jobs in the city by 2020. The selection committee was also impressed with the involvement of the community’s member financial institutions: First State Community Bank, New Era Bank, Ozarks Federal Savings and Loan Association, Southwest Bank of St. Louis and Sun Security Bank.
“The approach that the City of Fredericktown has adopted,” said Curt Heidt, VP/Community Investment Officer, FHLB-Des Moines, “aligns with our belief that residents and local leaders are the best agents for the community change and improvement. FHLB-Des Moines applauds the efforts that are taking place to sustain the future of Fredericktown by naming them our 2008 Missouri Capital Community.”
