We started our year with 24 members, 5 Clover kids, and 20 project leaders.  Our Projects included Wildlife, Archery, Shotgun, Vet Science, Sheep, Beef, Poultry, Rabbit, Cats, Stream Team, Photography, Woodworking Welding, Cake Decorating, Arts and Crafts and Scrap booking.  Our officers were:  President Donovan Tilk; Vice President Eli Sample, Secretary-Eleanor Hasenbeck,; Treasurer-Madison Ward; Song Leader-Autumn Wilson; Game Leader-Nathan Miller; Reporter-Max Wolff-Jurgens; Historian-Tristan McCutcheon; Photographer-Savannah Wilson and Parliamentarian-Travis Kinneman.

In October we picked up trash along our 2.3 Mile-adopt-a Highway Section.  At our Meeting we went over report Forms and project Records, and signed up for various committees.  Cibele attended the Shooting Sports Certification meeting at Pine Crest to be certified to lead the Archery Project.  Several Wildlife members attended the gigging Clinic at Sam A. Baker Park on October 13.

For our November meeting Susie Eck talked to us about her trip to Australia and we sampled food from there also.  We voted to pay the electric at the Community Center for the coming year and to exchange gifts at our December meeting.

For the Christmas party we exchanged gifts and ate-lots of good food.  Several rang the bell for the Salvation Army at the Wal-Mart Store in Fredericktown.  Later in the month we rode the bus to JCC for chili and helped to put together fruit baskets for our annual Christmas Caroling.  Santa went with us and we visited several homes.  We then met back at JCC for hot chocolate and cookies.  Welding members met at the high school for a meeting during Christmas break with Mr. Graham.  Scrap booking members met with Tracy and spent the night and most of the next day making pages and books.  Clothing, Archery, Knitting and arts and Crafts also had meetings over the break.

In January, Trooper Richie Aires from Wayne County spoke to us about the importance of seat belts.

We voted to donate $150 to a family that lost their home to fire in the Jewett area.

Brady, Eleanor, Madison and Megan did their demonstrations.  There were several project reports also.

Jessica Phelps, R.N. spoke at our February meeting.  She spoke to us on heart health.  Eleanor and Savannah attended Teen Conference and had a great time-they encourage everyone that is eligible to attend next year.  We voted to collect old cell phones and donate the proceeds to Relay for Life.

Our March meeting was moved to the second Tuesday because of snow.  Our speaker was Justin Bennett.  He brought a horse and talked about safety issues and care of horses.  Eli and Donovan participated in 4-H Congress interviews in Cape.  Poultry members received 8 Cornish cross chicks as part of their project.  Poultry members attended a Poultry show at Cape, Eli and Eleanor placed first in Showmanship.  Eleanor's hen took Reserve Champion.  Max and Justin also attended.  We also had a good turnout for the annual Pig Roast planning meeting.  The annual Sheep day was March 8 at the Sample Barn.  We made salt feeders and halters and we had a mock sheep show.  Those that were interested could learn how to make a drop spindle from a cd and how to spin.  Kendra Graham did the Show ME Quality assurance program with us.  We had lamb burgers for lunch.  The Beef project members had a meeting the last of the month and learned how to vaccinate and tattoo calves.  Cibele was awarded a Frank Graham Leadership Award.

April is once again Adopt-a-Highway trash clean-up month.  We met after school and had pizza and then picked up litter.  Our speaker was Bo McCutcheon he gave a very interesting demonstration on blacksmithing.  We went over our raffle tickets for the Pig Roast and also did job assignments.  Archery leader Cibele Hasenbeck received a mini grant to make targets for the Archery project.  We voted to have a fun day at Elephant Rocks but only a select few were brave enough to face the cold weather.  Probably just as well since someone forgot to bring the hotdog buns!!  Eleanor attended a State Poultry contest in Sedalia.

May is one of our busiest months and this year was no exception.  As always we were in charge of the Azalea Pet Show and it had a very good turnout.  The Poultry project members traveled to John Brewen's farm to learn how to butcher chickens.  We processed the Cornish chicks we had been raising since March.  Each member then donated at least one dressed chicken to the Pig Roast/Auction.  It was a very educational experience.  We learned a lot about feed conversion and slaughter processes.  This year we were encouraged to have our projects finished in time for the Pig Roast.  There were several projects displayed in a tent beside the Community Center.  This year the Pig Roast was very successful.  We like to thank David McCutcheon for building the picnic tables-one was raffled off and we auctioned off three.  We are also very appreciative of Dees Auction Company for the service they provide to our club.  And of course we appreciate the continued support of everyone that attends, and those that donate so generously.  Donovan Tilk received our $1,000 scholarship, he is attending college at Rolla.  Savannah did her Veterinary Science project at the sale barn with Sandra-She has new understanding for the phrase-"watch the cow".

The first of June in 4-H Congress.  Eli, Donovan, Travis and Elizabeth traveled to Columbia with Pam Crass to attend this event.  As soon as they returned it was time for the annual 4-H camping/float trip.  On Friday evening we enjoyed some great fried fish thanks to David Hasenbeck.  He is officially the camp cook!!  Saturday morning we once again tried to cook breakfast in a brown paper sack over the camp fire.  Some were successful others were still hungry!!  We only suffered one major canoe tip over-a family of three.  This year there was not as many interesting sunburns as in years past-some have finally learned how to apply sun screen.  By the time the float was over and Hasenbecks' Jimmy was taken to the river to retrieve the canoes-there was a very noticeable aroma in it-dead fish.  Nobody wanted to ride with him!!  The following week-end was the State Poultry Day.  Max, Justin and Eleanor attended this with Poultry Leader Cibele Hasenbeck.  They rode back in the Jimmy with the windows down…was it because of the fish smell from the week before or because they were hauling chickens in the back.?

In July Lindsay, Eleanor, Madison and Max attended 4-H Camp at Pine Crest.  July also leads us to Achievement day at Jewett Community Center.  We were the hosts this year.  It was well attended and we tried our hands at Skill-a-Thons for something new this year.  As always we enjoy the egg toss and tug of war.  Members Haden Clark, Eleanor Hasenbeck, Zach and Travis Kinneman, Elizabeth Koewing, Nathan Miller, Lindsey Noland, Jacob Phelps, Eli Sample, Donovan Tilk, Justin and Madison Ward, Autumn and Savannah Wilson, Skylar Whitener, Max Wolf-Jurgens and Shannon Zaloz sent items to the Missouri State Fair.  Eleanor participated in the Egg Contest at the State Fair and Eli showed Charolais heifers.  Blue ribbon items not sent to the state fair were sent to the St. Francois County Fair.  Justin, Madison and Eli exhibited sheep.  Justin exhibited Poultry and Eli showed his heifers.  Lindsay received a best in Show for her photography entry, Justin received a most points in Poultry and Best of Show in Poultry and Eli received Most Points in Senior judging.

In August archery members Travis and Zach Kinneman, Nathan Miller and Eli Sample met after school at Dr. Miers' and made Archery targets to complete the mini grant that was received earlier in the year.

September is the SEMO Fair-Eli, Madison, Justin and Nathan showed sheep.  Nathan, Eli and Justin received Champion and/or Reserve Champion Ribbons on their breeding stock.  Eli and Nathan received the Sheep Showmanship Trophies for the 2 different age levels and $250.  Eli placed second in the 4-H/FFA Tractor Rodeo.  Justin Ward, Eleanor Hasenbeck and Eli Sample exhibited poultry.  Eleanor received Grand Champion on her ducks and Champion Ribbons on her English hen and Eli received Champion on his turkey.  Eleanor and Justin entered roosters in the Rooster Crowing contest.  Madison Ward participated in the SEMO Fair Horse Show.  She received first in Horsemanship, second in Halter & water glass and third in Egg & Spoon and Bareback classes.  Members Eleanor, Travis, Zach, Lindsay, Eli, Donovan, Autumn, Savannah, Shannon, Skylar, Daryann, Gaby and Izzy sent items to be exhibited in the Exhibit hall at the SEMO Fair.

Last weekend Travis, Zach, Nathan and Eli traveled to the State Archery contest in Columbia with Dr. Mier and Cibele.  They all enjoyed their selves and shot fairly well.

Our club stays busy providing community service, leadership development, project activities and recreation, always striving to make the best better.
