The Blackcats Football team improved to 6-0 with a 41-20 victory over the Perryville Pirates, Friday night.

Perryville won the coin toss and got the ball first. The Pirates ran ten plays, before having to punt. The Cats went three and out, and Perryville took over on its 36. On the second play of the drive, the Cats got a sack and a fumble. The turnover gave FHS the ball at the Pirates’ 30. Joey Lewandowski ran twice for 22 yards, and on first and goal at the eight yard-line, A.P. Lewandwoski ran the ball into the end zone. The PAT was wide, and the Cats led 6-0 with 3:27 to play in the first quarter.

Perryville completed a seven-play drive with a touchdown of its own. The PAT gave the Pirates a 7-6 lead with 1:55 to go in the first.

The Cats took over on their 38 and went to the air. A pass to Ryan Gifford netted 35 yards, and A.P. Lewandowski ran 18 more to the 2-yard line. From there, Joey Lewandowski scored to make it 12-7 with 9:53 to play in the half.

Perryville scored on a 10-play 60-yard drive to regain the lead, 13-12 with 5:08 to go in the half.

The Cats received the ensuing kickoff and began at their own 29. They worked their way near midfield with their running game. Then A.P. Lewandowski hit Ryan Gifford with two passes 29 yards. On third and goal from the three, Lewandowski passed to Jon O’Neal. The Cats End bobbled the ball twice, but hung on for a score. Gifford’s PAT made it 19-13 with 37.8 seconds to go in the half. The half ended with the same score.

FHS received the second half kickoff and drove 59 yards on five plays. Joey Lewandowski capped the drive with a 19-yard sweep around into the end zone. The Cats added the 2-point conversion to make it 27-13.

Fredericktown’s defense came up with one of the plays of the game on the next Perryville possession. The Pirates were driving, but a fumble stopped the drive deep in Cats territory.

Fredericktown took over at its one yard line. A first down run got the ball to the two. Then, on second down, A.P. Lewandowski droppd back, into his own end zone and fired a pass to Gifford. Gifford was brought down at the 16 yard line. On the next play, Joey Lewandowski ran 84 yards for a score, and the Cats led 34-13 with 3:08 to go in the third.

Fredericktown came up with an interception, but had to punt the ball away on its next possession. The Pirates started over on their 34, and scored on a fourth down and inches, 12 plays later. The Cats led 34-20 with 6:01 to play in the game.

Perryville’s onside kick did not go the required ten yards, and the Cats took over. They ran three plays and punted, and the Pirates were forced to go to the air. With 4:29 to play, they threw four straight incomplete passes, and the Cats took over on the 12. It took two plays for Joey Lewandowski to scored the games final touchdown, making it 41-20 with 3:17 to play.

Joey Lewandowski finished with 22 carries for 195 yards and four scores. Zach Sohn rushed six times for 34 yards. A.P. Lewandowski had four carries for 36 yards and a score. he also completed six of seven passes for 94 yards and the touchdown to O’Neal. Gifford caught four passes for 79 yards. Sohn had a 12-yard reception.

On defense, the Cats had seven solo tackles from Ethan Tidwell and nine from Brylan Moore. Jeremy Ball had two sacks. Jake Sikes and Adam Daniels each had fumble recoveries, and Sohn had the interception.
