Bonne Terre Council Meets Tuesday
Council meets October 14
BONNE TERRE — The Bonne Terre City Council will discuss Tuesday whether they want to hire a park and recreation director.
At the last meeting, the parks board made the recommendation of hiring a director. The city has never had that job position.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. The meeting was moved to Tuesday because city offices are closed Monday for Columbus Day.
The council will also discuss the truck route ordinance again. Mayor Fritz Gower and Police Chief Doug Calvert have asked to remove Lake Drive, Church Street and Young Street from the city’s truck route list. A sign is already posted on Lake to keep trucks from using the street. Trucks would be allowed for local deliveries and a land-locked business.
Over the past few years, residents and businesses have complained about truck traffic on Church and Lake. The chief said the city has tried different things like lowering the speed limit to encourage drivers to take Highway 8 to U.S. 67 instead.
The amended ordinance would only include U.S. 67, Route K, Highway 47, North Division Street, Berry Road, and Raider Road.
Other items on the agenda include water and sewer connections, a pay request from Essex Contracting, paving projects, and storm water drainage on Columbia Drive.
