Madison Medical Center Board of Trustees Meeting

The Madison Medical Center Board of Trustees met at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, for their regular monthly meeting.  The following board members were present:  Melba Fadler, Mike Baker, Bob Schwent, and Kent Marler.  Board Members Absent:  Arthur Myers.  MMC staff present:  Rodney Gross, Administrator; Lisa Twidwell, CFO;  Jennifer Penuel, COO/Human Resources Director; Cindy Dulaney, Acute Care DON; Carol Hyatt, Physician Office Manager; Marty Lynch, Home Health Director; Joe Barnhouse, Purchasing Director; Maureen Medley, Administrative Assistant.  Also attending were Susy Thomas-Helms, who will replace Marty Lynch as Home Health Director on October 16, and Kathy Tripp, who is the new Data Processing Manager.

There were 564 patients seen in the E.R. during September.  There were 49 surgery cases, 110 EMS runs, 8 air transports from the hospital and 0 from the scene. During the month of September there were 8 admissions to the nursing home, 4 discharges, and 4 deaths.  In addition to the regular activities during October, the annual Family Day Barbecue will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

There were 251 Home Health visits and 2,800 in-home service units provided during September 2008.

There were 1,652 Rural Health Clinic visits and 169 Outpatient Clinic visits during September 2008.

After working for over 44 years as a registered nurse, Freida Allen will retire on October 17.

In addition to the Annual Nursing Home Barbecue on October 18, other upcoming events at MMC include a Schwans Truckload Fundraising Sale on October 10 and a Books are Fun Book Fair on October 16.

The hospital is preparing for its annual audit, which will be conducted during the second week of November.

 Roofing repairs have begun at MMC and are progressing very well. The work is being done by  Huffman Roofing. The Board approved the purchase of a natural gas water heater for the laundry area.

The Board gave its approval for MMC to enter into a contract with USA Drug, which serves most of the nursing homes in this area. They will meet the pharmacy needs of the nursing home with products and services, such as medcarts, treatment carts, med sheets, fax machines, etc., in addition to medications.

 The Board of Trustees approved medical staff reappointments for five active staff physicians, fifteen consulting staff physicians, four allied health professionals and thirteen E.R Physicians.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Slaughter Memorial Building.
