Candy and contests this weekend in Farmington, Bonne Terre
Thursday, October 23, 2008
The weekend is another weekend full of fall activities.

Bonne Terre will have their fall festival Saturday while the Farmington Chamber of Commerce and First State Community Bank are sponsoring Harvest Night on Friday.

Harvest Night will start with trick or treating from 4 to 5 p.m. at downtown businesses. There will be games and crafts at the fire station and on Harrison Street. Story-telling will be held at the library. The costume contest will be held at 6 p.m. at Long Hall where concessions will be available.

Children 12 and under are welcome to participate. Pizza and soda are available for purchase. Reflective trick-or-treat bags with free tickets for games and activities will be available at the Chamber office on Friday before 4 p.m. and at Long Hall after 4 p.m.

In Bonne Terre, activities will kick off Saturday with the window-decorating contest at 9 a.m. The paints will be supplied to decorate downtown businesses. Families, groups or individuals just need to wear old clothes and bring paint brushes.

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Craft booths and vendors are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Sheriff and His Deputies will play music from 1 to 3 p.m. The License to Cut Cancer Team will sell food. More than 20 pictures submitted for the Bonne Terre Community Betterment photograph contest will be on display.

At 2:30 p.m. there will be a pet costume contest followed by the contest for children and adults at 2:45. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.

From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., downtown businesses will hand out candy to trick or treaters. Afterward the jack-o-lantern contest will be held at Commerce Bank and then the winners of the Spooky Knees Contest will be announced.

Janet Barton, an organizer of the event, said anonymous businessmen and men who are active in the community volunteered to have their knees photographed. The photographs will be placed on jars and people will vote on the spookiest.

There will be a music/dance from 3 to 7 p.m. “The Mummy” will play at Lakeview Park at 8 p.m.
