My parents are Bill and Phyllis White. My dad worked as a telephone repairman, ran a small car wash and farmed a few acres when I was young. My mom worked at MFA Agri services in Advance.
I am a former 4th grade teacher at Leopold R-3 Schools. I went to college at SEMO and have a master's degree in Elementary Administration. I am a member of Harmony Church, the NRA, National Wild Turkey Federation and Women in the Outdoors. Also a member of Bollinger County Chamber of Commerce, Marble Hill Women's Study Club and Farm Bureau.
2.) Experience-Having been a teacher I've seen the difference a quality education can make and the problems facing parents and students trying to gain the knowledge necessary to be successful in life. As the wife of a state trooper, I understand the dangers that face too many of our citizens each and every day. We have to work harder to reduce crime and drug use in our state. Living with a law enforcement officer allows me to see first hand how destructive drugs are to our families.
Another thing that has helped me is that I've been working in the district as the District Assistant to Senator Jason Crowell and Representative Rod Jetton, holding office hours, attending community events, helping people with their problems and hearing about the issues they are concerned with for the past 4 years. I believe I have a good understanding of the district and its' people and believe I share their conservative values.
I've learned it is important for constituents to know they can contact their state representative and plan to continue regularly scheduled office hours. Office hours would be one way for me to stay informed about the issues and concerns facing the people in the 156th district.
We've been fortunate to see some transportation improvements in our region, such as Highway 67 and 72. Progress is good but if your home is along the route or you need to get in or off along the road, it can present some problems. Working with MoDot and our communities as well as the citizens along the highways has been an enjoyable experience that I hope will help me in continuing to improve the roads and bridges in our region.
Working with small businesses when they try to deal with the rules, regulations and taxes placed on them by Jefferson City has shown me how important it is to get the government off their back and why a state representative needs to be available to help local citizens fight the bureaucrats. When it comes to understanding the regulation and rules facing small businesses, I understand that we must keep taxes low and lessen the amount of red tape.
The other aspect that I feel is important is the conservative values I was raised with. I feel very strongly about protecting life and the sanctity of marriage and as a hunter will always support our second amendment rights. I'm proud to be endorsed by Missouri Right to Life and Missourians United for Life. I have been rated "A" by the NRA. I also want to encourage everyone to vote on November 4 to make English the official language of Missouri.
3.) Priorities-
Lowering the cost of living for our families. Gas prices are out of control. We should strengthen the laws to prevent price gouging by the oil companies plus we need to become less dependent on foreign oil. There's no reason to give our money to the very people who have attacked our country. We need to encourage wind, solar, biofuels, and more drilling of our own oil right here in America. Property taxes have skyrocketed out of control and it's forcing many folks, especially those on fixed incomes, out of their homes. I want to lower taxes so that people can keep more of their money to pay the higher costs of gasoline, food, and insurance.
I would like to see a reduction or elimination on the property taxes of cars and trucks. This would also help the family budget. I would like to see a fair property tax assessment system that would reflect the true value of the property. I would like to see a bill pass that would prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving welfare or state benefits. We should strengthen the laws to allow our schools to remove children from the classroom who have discipline problems. I will support reforms that will lower the cost of healthcare so more families can afford insurance and have better access to quality, affordable healthcare.
4.) Health care-I will support reforms that will lower the cost of healthcare so more families can afford insurance and have better access to quality, affordable healthcare. I realize that health care costs are sky-rocketing and hurting the family budget. I will fight the insurance companies and special interests so that families have access to quality health care at a price they can afford. I will work to make sure insurance companies and government programs cover more preventative measures such as yearly check-ups, pap smears, mammograms, and early childhood immunizations. I will also push to allow small businesses and families to deduct the cost of insurance premiums and doctors' ‘costs from their state income taxes.
