Last week, Kiley J. Rigdon, 30, was charged with financial exploitation of the elderly, which is a Class A felony. Her bond was set at $25,000.
According to the probable cause statement, a Park Hills police officer talked with an elderly woman about money that was taken from her over a period of more than a year.
The 80-year-old woman told police she met Rigdon while her husband was in a nursing home. She said while she was recovering from a stroke in another nursing home, Rigdon convinced her to sign her Power of Attorney over to her. She also made a will giving Rigdon everything if she died.
The woman said Rigdon was supposed to help pay her bills. She said instead Rigdon took several thousands of dollars out of her annuity and used it to pay Rigdon’s own mortgage payments, car insurance, electric bills, etc.
Rigdon told Detective Mike Kurtz that she did use some of the woman’s money because she needed money to pay her own bills. She estimated she spent about $83,000 of the woman’s money and she wanted to pay it back.

This paper will not approve comments that don't support their views. Imagine that. She is innocent. Period. Deal with it. Where's all the comments that say that???? You guys didn't get all the facts before posting her story and some of which got posted is false information. Now I know why I don't get your paper. You don't care about the people in the paper, just the money you get from readers. Write what sells, right? Whatever.

This is ridiculous! what is with you people? you guys will believe anything!!! There are so many details that were left out of this story it is horrible! Get the facts...ALL THE FACTS before you start judging people. How many times have you watched the news to hear one story and flip it over to another channel to have the same story told with completely different details??? This old lady isn't getting played by Kiley, but by others. You will see when this is done that she is actually innocent and when you do, how many will be saying sorry? She is a wonderful person. You would be lucky to know her.

Thanks for clearing that up. Regardless, they need to throw the book at this lady! Slaps on the wrists by our Judges is the reason these things continue to happen!!!!

mobigdog,, this story was in the paper last week,,, and it stated in that article she was a social worker in a nursing home, thats where the information came from.

Since they gave the woman's name maybe 12345 knows her as a social worker. I think I know her and I believe she is a social worker. I hate that someone is taking advantage of elderly..that makes me so mad.

Where does it say anywhere that this woman was a social worker 123456??? She could have been a housekeeper, a nurse, a patient aide, or any other number of people that work in that setting, as a matter of fact, she may not be anything more than a scam artist, as it does not say she worked in the home. Regardless, this is about as low as it can it and I hope that St. Francois County has a Judge that will stand up and punish this woman as she should be!! No more slaps on the wrists for these criminals that continue to take advantage of our most vulnerable populations...

This is so up-setting, to hear that yet another elderly person took someone into their trust, and their heart, and thought they were their friend, only to be scammed.
This also happened to someone I knew, God rest her sole. She also thought she had a friend and entrusted her with everything. Only to find out that after this woman passed, that her so called trusting friend, scammed the whole family! She not only was made trustee over everything, she didn't even follow the will out . Her bills are still out-standing, Her Great grandson did not get the trust she wanted him to have and more.
Alert to Family members! Get involved in your elderly family members friends, or so called friends. This supposidly was a christian woman, well known here, who took the money and ran.The family had no idea what their family member had done by making this woman her trustee over everything.

I was censored on a previous type of issue so I won't name the name of the individual who did virtually the same thing to a dear friend of mine who is a quadrapalegic, veteran and dependent on others for his well being. However, the message remains the same-at least in this case they are prosecuting to the extent of the law and not offering, as of yet, a plea that includes ONLY unsupervised probation. Slam dunk this hiney to the gates of hell and do not look back! As for St. Francois County, stay out of the prosecution and take notes.

Malum is right. This stuff goes on all the time. This particular story hits home with me because I had a sideline relative try that crap with my widowed mother...using the same tactics as Malum describes...suddenly become "helpful" at the last minute, try to get her to sign away guardianship of my handicapped sister's sizeable nursing home trust, sign mom's farm over to him so "he could look after her", keep all the farming equipment at his place "so no one would steal it", try to be the executor of my dad's life insurance policy, ad nauseum. Thing was, this relative didn't know that everything was already in my name and had been early-on as my dad's health began its final plunge. I live 200 miles away, so we were prepared. Funny, once confronted, he doesn't come around anymore? People who take advantage of others like that are nothing but predators and should be treated the same as a sex offender, if I may be a little "non-objective" with this one.

I'm sure when the woman who took the money told Det. Kurtz she really felt remorse and wanted to pay the 83k back to her......
I'm sure it wasn't her facing life in prison and being in handcuffs...
I'm glad Det. Kurtz caught her.. i've known him a several years and he's always been a stand up officer of the law. 100% business on the job regardless of what is going on, super smart, and truly enjoys his job.
He is a stand up officer who is a shining example of what it means to carry a badge.
Good job Det. Kurtz.

So this social worker told the police she took the money to pay her bills, total of $83,000,, but now wants to pay it back,,, if she couldn't pay her own bills and stole from the elderly lady, where is she going to get the money to pay the little elderly lady back? She's saying that because she got CAUGHT!! Well I hope she enjoyed the money and the freedom while it lasted, because she deserves to be punished for taking advantage of the elderly lady. Division of Senior Services does not mess around with cases like this, proper actions will be taken.

This situation happens all too often. Unfortunately, many people don't get caught. If they do get investigated or caught, there isn't enough evidence to substantially prove that it was going on. These type of people are everywhere, scamming even some of your family members and you don't know it. The BOTTOM LINE is you have to be involved with your family or friends and look after their best interests. Big red flag is someone who suddenly has an interest in being the "helper" for someone who doesn't have family involved in their life and they are lonely and need assistance with personal care, home care, errands, etc. I could go on and on....but, just look after your own. If we all did that, the world would be a better place anyway. AND, if you ever suspect that someone is taking advantage of someone who is elderly or disabled, contact the Departement of Health and Senior Services.
