A house fire on Weber Road woke up many people Wednesday morning with the sound of about 24 explosions.

Firemen and police officers were dispatched to the area of Mineral Area Regional Medical Center to check on what sounded like a loud explosion at about 6:30 a.m. When they arrived they found a mobile home on the southwest side of Weber Road with the end torn out and the interior still smoking.

A closer look turned up a woman who had been inside the home at the time of the explosion. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and possibly other injuries. She was transported to a nearby emergency room for treatment.

As of press time on Wednesday the cause of the explosion was still under investigation. A member of the Missouri Fire Marshal’s office had been called in to determine the ignition source. It was already known that the source of the explosions was several medical oxygen tanks stored inside the home.

The Farmington Fire Department was assisted by Doe Run and Wolf Creek fire departments in handling the incident.
