Fredericktown High School Hosts Student Council Convention
An estimated 1300 students were signed up to attend the Federation of Student Councils Convention last Thursday. Students were holding small dance circles before the programming began.
The Southeast Missouri Federation of Student Councils held their 60th Annual District Convention on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Fredericktown High School (FHS).

The theme of convention was “Share the Vision.”

An estimated 1300 students, coaches and chaperones from all around Southeast Missouri attended the event.

Southern Illinois University and Mineral Area College had presentation tables at the event.

The Convention was called to order by FHS Student Council President Mandolin Randall.

Allison Barron sang the National Anthem, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, then FHS Principal Brett Reutzel gave the welcoming speech.

Keynote speaker was George Fields. He is a motivational speaker/entertainer and humorist from Louisville, Kentucky.

The agenda for the event included a roll call of schools, nominations for the 2009 officer schools, a presentation by Amy Roth from the Southeast Area Management Team regarding Special Olympics, entertainment by the FHS Gold Dusters, and presentation of awards and scholarships.

This year’s convention was sponsored by Southern Illinois University, Southeast Missouri State University, Wal-Mart, Wards Farm Center, Farm Bureau, Madison Medical Center, Safe Harbor Hospice, Inc., Filtration Systems Products, New Era Bank, Prairie Farms, Veterinarian Clinic, Tidwell Express, Pense Brothers Drilling, First State Community Bank, Mineral Area College, South Brook Nursing Home and Jostens.

FHS Student Council; President Mandolin Randall, Vice-President Connor Wangler, Marty Powers, Rick Coonce and Tracie Parker; Advisor is Principal Brett Reutzel. FHS is the 2008 President Officer School of the Council.

Hosting the convention is a competitive among the councils.
