Tow truck driver accused of fleeing deadly wreck
GRANITE CITY, Ill. (AP) — A southwestern Illinois tow truck driver remains jailed on $100,000 bond after being accused of drunkenly fleeing the scene of a wreck that killed a man and injured that victim’s infant son.
Madison County prosecutors Friday charged Mark Ikerman with aggravated driving under the influence, leaving an accident scene and failing to report a wreck.
Police say a tow truck 43-year-old Ikerman was driving early Friday in Granite City rammed Donald Legens’ sport utility vehicle from behind while the SUV was stalled on a road, apparently out of gas.
Thirty-four-year-old Legens died at the scene, and his 9-month-old son was injured and hospitalized in St. Louis.
A witness followed Ikerman to his Edwardsville home and called police, who arrested him there seven hours later.
