SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Will Shields and St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Todd Worrell will be enshrined in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
They’re among the 14-member class of 2009 being inducted Feb. 7 at University Plaza Convention Center in Springield.
Shields made a franchise-record 12 straight Pro Bowl appearances before retiring from the Chiefs in 2007. His 230 starts are second only to Brett Favre for the NFL record.
Worrell stepped in as the Cardinals’ closer in August 1985 and was key to helping St. Louis reach the World Series that year. He retired after the 1997 season.
Other inductees include:
— First baseman John Mayberry, who averaged 24 home runs and 94 RBIs for the Kansas City Royals from 1972 to 1977.
— Football great Grant Wistrom, a Webb City native who starred at Nebraska and played on the St. Louis Rams’ 2000 Super Bowl championship team.
