Wallace chatter irritates Cardinals manager

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is getting tired of Brett Wallace’s name always coming up when the roster needs an infusion.

The 22-year-old Wallace was the Cardinals’ first-round pick last year, and was batting .291 with five homers and 14 RBIs at Triple-A Memphis. He’s been on a tear lately, hitting .447 with two homers and five RBIs in his last 10 games.

La Russa says the young third baseman needs a lot more time in the minors before the organization even considers bringing him to the big leagues. The manager pointed out he hit .400 for a few weeks in the minor leagues, and noted he ended up hitting about .190.

La Russa added that anybody who advocates a Wallace call-up is rooting against him.
