2010 Arts Awards nominees wanted
The Missouri Arts Council (MAC), a division of the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED), is seeking nominations for the 2010 Missouri Arts Awards. Categories for the awards include arts education, arts organization, creative community, individual artist, arts leadership, and philanthropy.
Initiated in 1983, the Missouri Arts Awards honor individuals and organizations who have made profound and lasting contributions to the cultural and artistic climate of the state. Missouri Arts Award nominees are reviewed by a committee of Missouri citizens from throughout the state who are knowledgeable, experienced, and highly respected in the arts.
“Each year MAC takes the opportunity to recognize individuals and organizations for their contributions to the arts community,” said Beverly Strohmeyer, executive director of the Missouri Arts Council. “Recognizing arts leaders within Missouri communities gives us the opportunity to demonstrate the importance of the arts.”
The 2010 awards will be presented in a ceremony on Feb. 10, 2010, at the Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City. Nomination forms for the awards can be found on the Missouri Arts Council Web site http://www.missouriartscouncil.org.
Missouri Arts Council provides more than $8 million a year to nonprofit organizations through grants that meet its strategic goals. Those goals are to increase participation in the arts in Missouri, improve Missouri’s economy using the arts and strengthen Missouri education through the arts.
MAC awards grants to organizations to stimulate the growth, development, and appreciation of the arts in Missouri. This funding makes possible quality arts programming to communities throughout Missouri. In addition to financial assistance, MAC provides expertise in community development, fundraising, marketing, grant writing, arts education, artistic disciplines (visual arts, music, literature, theater, dance, festivals, and film/media) and more.
