FRANKCLAY — The Leadwood Marlins now have a shot at winning the MABA 13-year-old league. Winning two games over the Caledonia Falcons, 13-0 and 16-1, on Wednesday, the Marlins (8-2) moved to within one game of the North County Raiders (9-1). The two teams are scheduled to meet this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. as part of a quadruple header at Farmington’s Wilson Rozier ballfield.
Levi Earnest was the winning pitcher in game one, striking out four batters and giving up only one hit and one walk in his three innings. Kyle Coleman kept the game a one-hitter with two innings of no-hit relief. Robert Akers had the Falcons lone hit.
Marlin multiple hitters were Klayton Loughary 2-3 with a double and a triple, Earnest 2-3 with a double, and Josh Camillo 2-4. Brendan McCoy hit a double, and Luke Jacobsen, Colby Eckhoff, Lane Mercille, Zach Hampton and Jake Coleman all had one single each.
Ethan Short pitched all five innings of the second game with a 10 strike-out, no-hit performance. Short gave up only two walks in the game.
Eckhoff upped his batting average going 3-3 at the plate with two doubles. Camillo was 2-3, and Earnest hit on double. Loughary, McCoy and Short had one single each.
